Lexicon

The Order’s terms, and what each one means.

This tradition has its own vocabulary. Most of it is German, and some of it is older still. These terms are kept rather than translated, because a translation would lose the meaning. A short gloss is given for each, for readers meeting them for the first time.

Terms are given here in English. The Spanish pages gloss the same terms in Spanish.

The tradition and its law

Wihinei — The ancient name of the tradition and its way of life, not a coinage of the Order. It carries several shades of meaning at once.

Armanism (Orthodox Armanism) — The true, traditional and ancient Armanism that Meister Guido von List wrote about extensively, and which continues in our own time. It is a complete tradition of religion, science and law; the work of the Runes is one part of it.

Rita — The ordering law of the world. Not a rule imposed, but the pattern things follow.

Runenarbeit — Rune-work. The practice of the Runes: the working part of the tradition, as distinct from its study.

Galdr — Chanted or sung Rune-work. Always written with a capital G.

Sol-Ar Review — The Order’s free letter: the Armanen view of religion, science, law and society, by email.

Order and office

Holy Armanen Order — A living religious order and an educational community, custodian of Orthodox Armanism.

Hüter — Keeper, custodian. The head of the Order, its custodian and director, who oversees initiation and ordination.

Halgadom — A working circle of the Order. The "Global Halgadom" is our online community, which anyone may join from anywhere.

die Meister — Collectively, all initiated and ordained Kamanen and Armanen. Note that the German plural of Meister is Meister.

The Path and its stages

Runenlehrling — Rune-Apprentice. The first stage. Everyone who takes up formation begins here and receives the first lesson of Urgrund.

Urgrund — The primordial ground; the first Principles. The name of the course. It establishes the ground of the tradition before a Path is chosen.

Geselle — Journeyman. The second stage. Having chosen a Path, one continues as a Geselle, working with various initiated teachers. The word is the old craft term for one who travels and works under many masters before qualifying in their own right.

Arman-Geselle — A Geselle on the Arman Path.

Kaman-Geselle — A Geselle on the Kaman Path.

Meister — Master. The third stage, and an honour as well as a rank. One becomes a Meister Arman or a Meister Kaman. Collectively, die Meister.

The two Paths and their callings

Arman (plural Armanen) — An initiated teacher who leads a Halgadom. The priestly and teaching calling, and the fuller public office of the tradition.

Kaman (plural Kamanen), also Vitki (plural Vitkar) — A Rune-worker: one who practises and serves within a Halgadom, without holding the public office of the Arman.

The Arman Path — The way toward the Arman’s office: teaching, doctrine and initiation.

The Kaman Path — The way of the Rune-worker: depth of practice and service within a Halgadom.

The people of the Order

Armanenvolk — The Armanen people. Laypeople who study and practise with the Order.

Armanenschaft — The community of the ordained Armanen.
